The Devil Is in the Details: Meryl Streep Carries Runway to 'The Devil Wears Prada 2' London Premiere

By Alexus Mosley

If Miranda Priestly taught us anything, it’s that the smallest detail is never just a detail. And at The Devil Wears Prada 2 premiere in London, Meryl Streep proved it. Dressed in a lustrous red satin car coat by Prada, worn over tailored black slacks and a silky ivory blouse with a soft scarf-neck, Streep was the picture-perfect example of Miranda’s signature polish.

But it was the clutch that told the real story. In her hand was a bedazzled piece designed to resemble a mock-up of Runway magazine, the very publication that defined Miranda Priestly’s world. For those who remember, the “book” was somewhat of a daily ritual to be delivered daily. For the premiere, the symbol of power and the relentless pace of fashion was reimagined in crystals, carried like a knowing inside joke between the film and its audience.

Streep finished the look with diamond drop earrings, a statement ring, and a starburst brooch from Fred Leighton. Her inky black cat-eye sunglasses shielded her gaze in true Priestly fashion, and the shoes, of course, were red Prada pumps. No pitchfork heel required.
