Coco Jones Was Every Bit the Glamorous Bride We Expected With Black Designers Behind the Fashion

When Grammy award-winning singer and actor Coco Jones married NBA star Donovan Mitchell on August 1, 2026, at a private residence in New York State, the result was polished, romantic, and deeply personal. But beyond the glamour, one detail stood out: Jones made a point of working with Black designers throughout the wedding weekend.

Rather than simply choosing recognizable names, Jones researched designers herself, reached out to brands and looked for creatives whose vision felt aligned with her own. She wanted the clothes to be beautiful, but she also wanted the people creating them to understand her and feel personally connected to the moment. The result was a bridal wardrobe that reflected both her style and her values.

For the ceremony, Jones worked with Off-White creative director IB Kamara and Simon Lee, the brand’s director of VIP and special projects. The finished gown featured an off-the-shoulder neckline, a subtle sweetheart shape, draping at the hip and a sweeping train. The silhouette was romantic and elegant while also distinctly modern.

Off-White also created Mitchell’s white wedding suit, using intentionally similar fabrics so the couple’s looks felt connected. Both ensembles included embroidered initials and a reference to Song of Solomon 6:3. That detail gave the fashion a deeper sense of meaning, coordinating the couple’s looks for visual effect, but also as a reflection of their union.

For the reception, Jones changed into a gown by Esé Azénabor featuring a fitted skirt and sparkling bodice. Feeling much like a natural extension of Jones’s red carpet style, it was glamorous and feminine without losing its bridal quality. Jones has described herself as a glitter fanatic, so the reception dress felt especially fitting. It allowed her to bring a little of her stage presence into the wedding celebration while still maintaining the romance of the occasion.

Jones also worked with Charles C. Dieujuste, founder of bridal brand Scorcésa, for her rehearsal dinner and after-party looks. Drawn to his Haitian heritage and unconventional approach to bridal fashion, Scorcésa was a natural fit for the later portions of the wedding weekend, when the styling could become more playful and less formal.

For the after-party mini in particular, the bride wanted a sharply defined waist and a silhouette that felt youthful and celebratory, resulting in a wedding wardrobe with more range, moving from ceremony elegance to reception glamour and finally into a more relaxed after-hours mood.

For her shoes and handbags, Jones turned to longtime collaborator Brandon Blackwood, which was a meaningful choice considering Blackwood had already been part of several important moments in her career. Rather than bringing in someone entirely new for the wedding, Jones chose a designer who already understood her style. Blackwood helped to give the wardrobe a sense of continuity, creating accessories for multiple looks throughout the weekend. His involvement also reinforced collaborations based on connection as much as aesthetics, one of the strongest themes of Jones’s bridal fashion.

One of the most personal details of the wedding came from Jones herself. After learning that the six bridesmaid dresses she selected might not arrive in exactly the same shade, she decided to hand-dye each one. She researched the appropriate dye and completed the process herself after discovering that professional services would not take such a small order. It was a surprisingly hands-on touch for a wedding filled with custom fashion and designer collaborations, and it showed how involved Jones was in shaping the visual details of the day.

Coco Jones was every bit the glamorous bride we expected, while keeping Black talent at the forefront.
