In every industry, there’s always that woman, the one who floats into a room and somehow leaves with three new opportunities, two invitations, and everyone wondering, “Who was she?” That’s the It Girl effect.
And the best part? It’s a skill that you, too, can cultivate. Modern networking is soft power, influence, warmth, and intention. It’s showing up like you already belong, because you do. Here’s how:
Lead With Presence, Not Pressure
True It Girls don’t chase the room; they transform it. Instead of aggressively pitching yourself, you should approach with quiet confidence, maintain eye contact, and offer a warm, genuine smile. Your energy introduces you before your words do.
Networking is more about how people feel around you than what you say.
Curate Your Signature Story
Every It Girl has a narrative, so create your own. It should be short, memorable, and future-facing. Rehearse it until it’s innate. A chic elevator pitch is the key that opens many doors.
Ask Better Questions Than Everyone Else
While everyone else asks the boring basics, such as, “So what do you do?”
You pose more interesting and uncommon questions like, “What’s inspiring you creatively right now?” or “What project are you most proud of this year?” And, “What’s something you’re excited to build next?”
Not only is it something they may not have already been asked, but allows for a chance for one to dig deep and shows a more genuine interest.

Soft Follow-Up Is Your Superpower
Avoid the corporate, robotic follow-ups. Instead, send messages that are warm, personal, and appear effortless. Be your authentic self while remaining professional. An example would be: “It was so lovely meeting you last night — your perspective on ______ has been on my mind today.”
You’re continuing the vibe, not chasing it.
Practice The 3:1 Connection Rule
For every event, meet three new people and deepen 1 meaningful connection. This method can save you from feeling chaotic and scrambling for attention. Remember, sometimes the best part of networking is what you may pick up from a conversation with someone, even if that meeting goes nowhere further.
The It Girl approach to networking isn’t about forcing your way into rooms. It’s about entering spaces with grace, connecting with intention, and letting your unique essence do the heavy lifting. Every relationship becomes part of your narrative, every room becomes part of your rise.
And the world… becomes your front row.
