Chris Brown’s legal battle with his former housekeeper is far from over. Maria Avila, who was awarded millions after a dog attack at the singer’s California home, is now reportedly asking a judge to issue a warrant for his arrest as she attempts to collect the money she’s owed.
According to TMZ, Avila filed court documents requesting an arrest warrant after allegedly encountering difficulties getting Brown to cooperate with an examination of his finances. Avila claims the R&B singer has failed to provide available dates to appear in court with his financial records, which she wants to review as part of her efforts to collect the $9.5 million damages award. She also reportedly raised concerns about the completeness of Brown’s financial disclosures, particularly information involving payments connected to his ongoing tour. The latest filing marks another development in a legal dispute that has continued for years. However, Avila’s request does not mean an arrest warrant has been issued.
The case stems from a December 2020 incident at Brown’s home in Tarzana, California. Avila alleged that she was attacked by a large dog while performing housekeeping duties on the property. According to court filings, the attack left her with serious injuries to her face, arm, and leg. The case eventually went to trial, and a Los Angeles jury found Brown liable, awarding Avila approximately $12.9 million in damages in July 2026. Brown, who disputed responsibility for the attack, subsequently challenged the damages award.
In September 2026, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Huey P. Cotton determined that the original damages award was excessive and gave Avila two options: accept a reduced $9.5 million award or proceed with a new trial on damages. Avila ultimately agreed to the reduced amount, according to TMZ. But collecting the money has become another legal battle.
Brown previously argued that commitments associated with his tour with Usher made it difficult for him to attend a court-ordered financial examination. Avila, meanwhile, has continued pursuing information about his income and assets. Now, with an arrest warrant reportedly being requested, the dispute has taken yet another turn.
As of the latest report, it remains unclear whether the court will grant Avila’s request.
