The Stranger Things universe isn't finished just yet. Netflix announced on November 6 that a new live-action prequel series, Other Worlds: A Stranger Things Adventure, is officially in development and scheduled to premiere in 2028.
Set in the 1950s, the upcoming series will take viewers to Marion, Nevada, decades before the events of the original Stranger Things. It will also predate the stage production Stranger Things: The First Shadow, which explores the early life of Henry Creel, better known as Vecna. Series creators Matt and Ross Duffer are returning alongside longtime Stranger Things writer Kate Trefry, who will serve as co-creator and showrunner. Filmmaker Joe Wright, known for Pride & Prejudice and Atonement, is set to direct the first three episodes.
The Duffer Brothers described the project as a fresh chapter featuring a new setting, heroes, and villains. Meanwhile, Trefry teased that there are still plenty of mysteries left to uncover. Netflix also released a brief teaser showing a mysterious disturbance in the skies above Nevada in 1955, offering an early glimpse of the prequel's setting.
The announcement arrives following the conclusion of Stranger Things, which ended its five-season run after becoming one of Netflix's biggest television franchises. Casting and additional plot details have yet to be announced. Other Worlds: A Stranger Things Adventure is expected to arrive on Netflix in 2028.
