Grab your blonde wig. Hannah Montana is officially back!
On March 10, Disney+ released the first trailer for the upcoming Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special, giving fans a nostalgic look at Miley Cyrus stepping back into the role that turned her into a global superstar. The special will premiere on March 24, exactly 20 years after the series first debuted on the Disney Channel on March 24, 2006.
The trailer shows Cyrus, now 33, slipping back into Hannah’s signature blonde wig as she walks through recreated sets from the beloved show, including the halls of Seaview High School, where her character Miley Stewart balanced life as a normal teenager while secretly living a double life as pop sensation Hannah Montana. “Already getting emotional,” Cyrus says in the trailer as she revisits the familiar set.
The special will be hosted by Call Her Daddy podcast host Alex Cooper, who tells Cyrus in the trailer that the show “defined a generation.” Fans also get a glimpse of some familiar faces. Cyrus reunites with her father, Billy Ray Cyrus, who played her on-screen dad, Robby Ray Stewart, and shares sentimental moments with her mother, Tish Cyrus, as they look through old photo albums from the series.
According to Disney, the anniversary event was filmed in front of a live audience and will feature an in-depth interview with Cyrus, along with never-before-seen archival footage from the show’s original production. Disney Branded Television president Ayo Davis described the special as a celebration of the show’s lasting impact. “Hannah Montana opened the door for so many fans to dream big, sing loud, and embrace every side of themselves,” Davis said in a statement. “We want this special to be a love letter to the fans who remain just as passionate today as they were when the series debuted.”
Cyrus echoed those sentiments, reflecting on the role that launched her career. “Hannah Montana will always be a part of who I am,” she said. “What started as a TV show became a shared experience that shaped my life and the lives of so many fans.”
She added that the anniversary celebration (which she calls the “Hannahversary”) is her way of thanking the fans who have supported her for two decades. And judging by the emotional trailer, the return of everyone’s favorite secret pop star might just have an entire generation feeling like it’s 2006 all over again.
