Miami Vice Is Getting a Reboot and the Casting Alone Has Our Attention

By Alexus Mosley

Miami Vice is officially getting the reboot treatment, and this time around, it’s bringing two of Hollywood’s most compelling leading men with it.

Michael B. Jordan and Austin Butler are set to star in Miami Vice ’85, a reimagining of the iconic 1980s series that once defined the intersection of crime, culture, and style. Jordan will take on the role of Ricardo “Rico” Tubbs, originally played by Philip Michael Thomas. At the same time, Butler steps into the pastel-soaked world of James “Sonny” Crockett, the character made famous by Don Johnson.

The upcoming project is expected to explore the glamour and corruption of mid-80s Miami, drawing inspiration from the original show’s pilot and first season. This era didn’t just influence television; it reshaped fashion, music, and visual storytelling as a whole. Now, with Jordan and Butler at the helm, the question isn’t just whether the reboot will live up to the original, but whether it can redefine the aesthetic all over again.

Miami Vice ’85 is currently set for release on August 6, 2027.
