Netflix Greenlights Calabasas YA Drama Produced by Kim Kardashian & Emma Roberts

Netflix is officially entering its rich teen drama era. According to Deadline, Kim Kardashian and Emma Roberts are reuniting behind the scenes to executive produce Calabasas, a new YA series inspired by Via Bleidner’s novel If You Lived Here You’d Be Famous By Now.

Set in an elite private school in one of California’s wealthiest enclaves, the series follows the ambitious daughter of a headmaster whose seemingly perfect future begins to unravel after she falls for a rebellious outsider determined to disrupt her glittering world. The official synopsis promises plenty of scandal, romance, and glossy dysfunction.

“In Calabasas, where desires are never as clean as appearances suggest, falling in love might be the most dangerous rebellion of all.”

It already sounds like the spiritual descendant of Gossip Girl, The O.C., and every 2000s-era teen drama built on secrets, privilege, and suspiciously glamorous teenagers. The series will be helmed by Bridgerton creator Chris Van Dusen, who stepped in after the project underwent a major creative overhaul. Pretty Little Liars creator I. Marlene King was previously attached as showrunner when the series was first announced in 2024. Netflix is also expanding the concept into reality television with Calabasas Confidential, an unscripted series following a group of privileged Gen Z friends, exes, and rivals returning home after college for one drama-filled summer.

The cast includes Jordyn Woods’ younger sister Jodie Woods and Preston Pippen, son of Scottie and Larsa Pippen, alongside a roster of influencers, models, and socialites.

At this point, Netflix clearly wants its next great glossy teen universe. And Calabasas just might be it.
