On this day , 24 years ago, the Sex and The City pilot premiered on HBO. Introducing us to Miranda Hobbes, Charlotte York, Samantha Jones, and our beloved Carrie Bradshaw, the tv series was loosely based on journalist Candace Bushnell’s book of the same name. The TV series captured a fantastical, vitalized, sexy Manhattan. Granting what felt like a behind the scenes part-imaginative, part-realistic look at single life on the magical island just before the dawn of the new millennium. Seamlessly combining what we love most: glamour, lust, love, fashion, and friendship. Sex and The City reached massic success, developing a cult like following and birthing two Hollywood follow up films, a prequel series, The Carrie Diaries and the recent reboot And Just Like That. Sarah Jessica Parker almost turned down the role of Carrie Bradshaw

SJP was concerned with the more provactive nature of the show.

Carrie Bradshaw is based on real life author, Candace Bushnell.

Author Candace Bushnell was also a shoe-obsessed writer with a sex column.

Mr. Big was only supposed to be a guest role.

Fans were so invested in he and Carrie’s relationship, writers decided to keep him around until the very end.

Sarah Jessica Parker had a no nudity clause.

In a 2016 The Hollywood Reporter interview, SJP explained her no-nudity clause stating, ”Some people have a perks list and they are legendary. They have white candles in their room. I don’t have a crazy list like that. I’ve always had a [no-nudity clause].“

Carrie Bradshaw was supposed to be a brunette.

Producers changed their mind the day before filming due to wanting to channel Candace Bushnell who is blonde.

Carrie's infamous tutu in the opening credits cost only $5.

The show’s costume designer, Patricia Field, found the tutu in a bargain bin.
