Elle Woods is making a pretty, pink comeback! Legally Blonde fans went into a frenzy yesterday after Reese Witherspoon announced that a Legally Blonde prequel was underway. The Academy Award-winning actress and film producer shared a reel on Instagram starring her as Elle Woods. With the opening video text reading “Something Pink is coming and “Perfect Day” by Hoku playing in the background, followers were transported to 2001 when we were first introduced to the bubbly, Barbie-esque, fashion-obsessed heroine.
With over 1.5 million likes, many are already planning all pink viewing parties. One fan commented on Witherspoon’s post with much excitement, “SCREAMING CRYING THROWING UP HYPERVENTILATING.” Another added, “GIRLLLL THIS IS THE BEST NEWS IVE HAD ALL MONTH!! IM SO EXCITED!!”
Though the project is still in its early stages, we do have some juicy details about the return of our favorite Harvard graduate. So far we know that it’s a series to be executive-produced by Reese Witherspoon via her media company, Hello Sunshine, alongside the series creator and showrunner, Laura Kittrel, Hello Sunshine’s Lauren Neustadter and Lauren Kisilevsky, and Legally Blonde films’ producer, Marc Platt. The series is titled Elle and tells the origin story of the ingenious protagonist as she navigates life as a high school student in the 90s. "Before she became the most famous Gemini vegetarian to graduate from Harvard Law, she was just a regular '90s high school girl,” Witherspoon shared in her Instagram caption. Further confirming the plot is the series logline: “Elle follows Elle Woods in high school as we learn about the life experiences that shaped her into the iconic young woman we came to know and love in the first Legally Blonde film.” The show is set to premiere on Amazon’s Prime Video next year.
