Nivea has a reason to celebrate.
The “Don’t Mess With My Man” singer revealed that her chronic myeloid leukemia is in remission, just months after publicly sharing her cancer diagnosis.
During an emotional appearance on the October 7 episode of The Tamron Hall Show, the 44-year-old R&B star was joined by her oncologist, Dr. Colin Vale, as she discussed her health journey and the encouraging news.
“I’m very grateful,” Nivea shared. “I couldn’t believe it because this happened to me this year only a few months ago.”
The singer has been participating in a clinical trial as part of her treatment, which she said involves taking two FDA-approved targeted medications daily. However, Nivea admitted that she wasn’t initially enthusiastic about the idea of joining a trial. “I said, ‘I don’t want a trial. I want the real stuff. I can pay for it,’” she recalled. “I was losing it. That was the only thing I tripped out about.”After learning more about the treatment and its success with other patients, Nivea ultimately decided to participate.
Although her leukemia is now in remission, the singer acknowledged that adjusting to treatment hasn’t been without its challenges. “I’m tired a lot. I have other issues. I’m bleeding. I have fibroids. It’s a long little list,” she explained. Still, Nivea remains optimistic. “I’m still on the better side than most,” she said. “I’m not complaining at all.”
The “Complicated” singer first publicly revealed her leukemia diagnosis in July, telling People that treatment was working and that she remained focused on her family, music and personal growth. “Life for me has changed in various ways, but treatment thus far is working,” she said at the time. “Taking it day by day with a positive mindset [and] a heart full of gratitude!”
Now, with her leukemia in remission, Nivea is continuing to navigate treatment while embracing this encouraging chapter of her health journey.
