From reality television's little sister to one of fashion's most recognizable faces, Kendall Jenner has spent much of her life growing up in the spotlight. Before there were Paris runways, designer campaigns, and magazine covers, there was Kendall Jenner, the lanky, slightly shy younger sister making appearances on Keeping Up With the Kardashians.

When the reality series premiered in 2007, Kendall was just 11 years old, growing up in a Calabasas household that was about to become one of the most famous families in America. Fast-forward nearly two decades, and the little sister who once seemed content to let Kim, Kourtney, and Khloé command the cameras has become a fashion fixture in her own right. Today, November 3, Kendall celebrates her 31st birthday. And what better excuse to revisit the transformation of one of reality television's most recognizable daughters?

For anyone who watched the early seasons of Keeping Up With the Kardashians, Kendall and Kylie were practically a package deal. The two youngest members of the family grew up surrounded by their older siblings' increasingly glamorous lives, occasionally stealing scenes with their childhood antics, sibling disagreements, and unmistakable sisterly bond. While Kim was becoming a tabloid sensation and Kourtney and Khloé were busy navigating their own relationships and businesses, Kendall was still doing the things ordinary kids did, only with television cameras nearby. It was an unusual childhood, to say the least. But those early appearances introduced viewers to a girl who would eventually build a career beyond the family reality show.

From reality TV to runway royalty, Kendall's interest in modeling began during her teenage years. By 2009, she had signed with Wilhelmina Models, taking her first steps into an industry where her famous surname would attract both attention and scrutiny. Her high-fashion breakthrough arrived in 2014, when she walked in Marc Jacobs's fall runway show. Soon, she was appearing on catwalks for designers including Chanel, Givenchy and Balmain.

The transformation was striking. The teenager viewers remembered from Calabasas was suddenly walking alongside established fashion models, appearing in major campaigns and becoming a familiar face during fashion month. That same year, she was named a global face of Estée Lauder, an appointment that reflected not only her growing modeling profile but also the increasing influence of social media in the beauty industry. In 2016, she landed the coveted September cover of American Vogue. By then, Kendall Jenner was no longer simply a Kardashian-Jenner sister with modeling ambitions. She was one of the most visible faces in contemporary fashion.

Thirty-one and still a fashion fixture, this year's birthday celebrations arrived with a little cinematic flair. Ahead of turning 31, Kendall hosted a Halloween birthday party and dressed as Jane Henderson, Nastassja Kinski's character in the 1984 film Paris, Texas. It's a fitting reminder that, even after spending most of her life in the public eye, Kendall can still find ways to surprise fashion and pop-culture watchers.

From the little sister on E! to the woman walking some of fashion's most prestigious runways, Kendall Jenner has experienced an evolution that an entire generation watched unfold. For those of us who remember the early Kardashian days, it's hard to believe she's already 31.

Happy birthday, Kendall! Here's to another year of fashion, famous family moments, and fabulous off-duty outfits.
