The New Elle Woods Just Wore Reese Witherspoon’s Original Legally Blonde Premiere Dress

Lexi Minetree is officially stepping into Elle Woods’ pink heels, and she’s doing it in style.
Ahead of the highly anticipated Legally Blonde prequel series, Elle, the actress, made a memorable appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on June 17, wearing the exact Marc Jacobs dress Reese Witherspoon wore to the premiere of Legally Blonde in 2001.
The fashion moment served as a fitting tribute to the actress who first brought the beloved Harvard-bound sorority girl to life more than two decades ago. At the same time, it was a symbolic passing of the torch as Minetree prepares to introduce a new generation to one of pop culture’s most iconic characters.

During her appearance on Fallon, she revealed that she has watched Legally Blonde more than 150 times. She also delighted audiences with an impression of Jennifer Coolidge, who famously played Paulette in the original film. Adding another layer to the full-circle story, Minetree shared that people have compared her to Witherspoon for years.
“Even when I was a brunette, random people would come to me and say, ‘You know who you look like? You look like Reese Witherspoon,’” she said. “I was like, thank you very much. That is a huge compliment.”
The upcoming Prime Video series Elle will explore Elle Woods’ high school years before she headed off to Harvard Law School and became one of cinema’s most beloved fictional heroines. The series was first announced by Witherspoon, who serves as an executive producer on the project through her production company, Hello Sunshine.
