Lil Nas X Mourns the Death of His Mother Tameka Hill: “This One’s Gonna Hurt”

Lil Nas X is mourning the loss of his mother, Tameka Hill.
The 27-year-old rapper shared the heartbreaking news on Instagram Saturday, August 29, posting several photos of his mother from over the years alongside a short but emotional tribute.
“RIP TO THE BADDEST EVER! LOVE U FOREVER MOMMY,” Nas wrote, before adding, “this one’s gonna hurt.”
No cause of death has been publicly disclosed.
Nas, whose real name is Montero Lamar Hill, has spoken candidly in the past about having a complicated relationship with his mother, who struggled with addiction.
In a 2020 interview, the “Old Town Road” rapper explained that the two weren’t particularly close because of her addiction and that his attempts to help her had been unsuccessful. Still, he made one thing clear: “there’s still love.”
His parents separated when he was young, and Nas spent part of his childhood living with his grandmother before his father eventually gained custody.
His latest tribute makes that enduring love especially poignant.
The devastating news comes as Nas has been publicly sharing more about his own life following several months in an inpatient treatment program.
Earlier this summer, he returned to social media and revealed that he had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and was now working with both a therapist and psychiatrist. He told followers that he was feeling better, creating more freely and experiencing “less fear” in his life.
Just days before announcing his mother’s death, Nas celebrated another personal milestone: 10,000 days of life.
“I made it!” he said in an Instagram Story while marking the occasion with a cake. The singer also joked about the outpouring of encouragement he has received since returning home from treatment, while expressing gratitude for the support surrounding this new chapter of his life.
Now, that chapter comes with an unimaginable loss.
Despite the complexities Nas has previously acknowledged in their relationship, his message to his mother was simple.
