Every once in a while, fashion gets a storyline so good that even people who don’t care about fashion become invested. This season, that storyline took the form of a $125 orange faux-ostrich clutch.
What began as an accessory from Jordyn Woods’ fashion brand, Woods by Jordyn, has somehow evolved into one of the most unlikely style stars of the NBA Finals. The bag in question, the Tux Clutch Mini, became the subject of internet fascination after fans noticed that whenever Woods carried it to a New York Knicks playoff game, the team won. Soon, the bright orange bag became a superstition.
Woods, who is engaged to New York Knicks center Karl-Anthony Towns, began bringing the clutch courtside throughout the team’s playoff run. The winning streak continued, and with each victory, the mythology surrounding the bag grew larger. Then came Game 3 of the NBA Finals.

Because of heightened security measures and a strict no-bag policy at Madison Square Garden, Woods was unable to bring the clutch into the arena, and the Knicks lost. As fate would have it, when the bag returned for Game 4, the Knicks returned to winning form, sending social media into a frenzy and cementing the accessory’s status as New York’s unofficial good-luck charm.
Of course, the story only became better when fans learned the bag wasn’t from a luxury fashion house at all, but from Woods’ own brand. The Tux Clutch Mini, which retails for $125 and is available in faux ostrich and croc-embossed finishes, was originally designed as a smaller version of one of the brand’s existing handbags. Woods has said she wanted to create the look and feel of an ostrich handbag at a more accessible price point.

Fans created memes, sports commentators discussed, and fashion publications covered it. Suddenly, a handbag had become part of the narrative surrounding one of the most exciting championship runs in recent NBA history.
