Lauren Graham Explains Why She’s Not in the 'Gilmore Girls' Documentary
By Alexus Mosley
Fans expecting Lorelai to spill all in the new Gilmore Girls documentary are going to be disappointed. Lauren Graham says she isn’t taking part. On the Emmys red carpet, Graham made her position crystal clear: she “doesn’t do anything the creator of my show isn’t a part of,” and so, for now, she’s sitting this one out.
The documentary, currently titled Drink Coffee, Talk Fast (previously reported as Searching for Stars Hollow), is moving forward with interviews from many familiar faces, including Kelly Bishop, Jared Padalecki, Chad Michael Murray, Keiko Agena, and others. But the absence of both the showrunners, Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino, and now Lauren Graham’s firsthand perspective will surely change the way fans experience the film.
So why does this matter? Gilmore Girls was always driven by its creator, Amy Sherman-Palladino’s signature rhythms, jokes, and world-building are woven into the show’s DNA. Graham’s stance reads like loyalty to that creative vision: if the creators aren’t involved, she’s not lending her voice to a project that’s telling the story without them.
Still craving a reunion? Graham reunited with Alexis Bledel at the Emmys and has been teasing other ideas, including the possibility of a Christmas-style return that would feel true to Gilmore energy. So while Lorelai might be skipping the doc, she hasn’t closed the door on Stars Hollow completely.
