Angel Reese gave the WNBA Finals a performance worth talking about.
The Atlanta Dream star scored 30 points and grabbed 16 rebounds against the Golden State Valkyries on Monday, October 19, becoming the youngest player in league history to record at least 30 points and 15 rebounds in a Finals game. Atlanta’s 79–65 victory tied the championship series at 1–1.
At just 24, Reese also became only the third player to reach that statistical milestone in the Finals, joining Jonquel Jones and Breanna Stewart. Jones accomplished the feat with Connecticut in 2019, while Stewart did so with Seattle in 2020. It is a short list with some serious basketball credentials.
The record came with another meaningful first: Atlanta earned its first Finals victory in franchise history. Reese’s individual achievement helped deliver a breakthrough for the entire organization, giving the Dream a win to build on as the series continues.
Her contribution extended beyond scoring and rebounding. Reese added three assists and two blocks, while Allisha Gray supplied 18 points and Jordin Canada finished with 13 points and 10 assists. The result was a collective response with Reese at the center of it.
For a championship series, the timing could hardly have been better. A two-game deficit would have left Atlanta chasing. Instead, the Dream head into the next matchup on level terms, with a historic performance giving their fans plenty to celebrate. Thirty points demands attention. Sixteen rebounds add another dimension. Doing both on the Finals stage—and entering the record books in the process—makes this a defining night in Reese’s young career.
The championship is still to be decided. But Angel Reese has already left her mark on these Finals.
