Eric Dane, the actor beloved for his roles on Grey’s Anatomy and Euphoria, has died at the age of 53.
The news was confirmed by Dane’s family, who shared that the actor passed away on Thursday, February 19, following a courageous battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. Dane publicly revealed his diagnosis in 2025, less than a year before his passing.
“With heavy hearts, we share that Eric Dane passed on Thursday afternoon following a courageous battle with ALS,” his family said in a statement. “He spent his final days surrounded by dear friends, his devoted wife, and his two beautiful daughters, Billie and Georgia, who were the center of his world.”
Throughout his illness, Dane became an advocate for ALS awareness and research, using his platform to bring visibility to the disease and the challenges faced by those living with it. His family noted that he was deeply grateful for the love and support he received from fans around the world.
Dane rose to fame as Dr. Mark Sloan (affectionately known to fans as “McSteamy”) on Grey’s Anatomy, becoming one of the show’s most iconic heartthrobs. In recent years, he found a new generation of fans through his role on HBO’s Euphoria, further cementing his place in pop culture across eras.
