Lily Collins Is Finally Playing Audrey Hepburn in a New Breakfast at Tiffany’s Movie

By Alexus Mosley

Lily Collins is officially stepping into one of Hollywood’s most iconic roles. This time not as Holly Golightly, but as the woman who made her immortal.

After nearly a decade in development, a new film centered on the making of Breakfast at Tiffany’s is moving forward, with Collins set to portray Audrey Hepburn. If you’ve ever caught yourself thinking that Lily Collins bears a resemblance to Hepburn, you’re far from alone. The casting feels like a natural fit for fans who’ve long compared the two, and it arrives right on time as Hollywood’s biopic era continues to expand.

The upcoming project is based on Sam Wasson’s book “Fifth Avenue, 5 A.M.: Audrey Hepburn, Breakfast at Tiffany’s and the Dawn of the Modern Woman,” which has been described as the first complete behind-the-scenes account of the film’s chaotic and culturally significant production. Collins will also serve as a producer on the movie, adding another layer of creative involvement to the project.

The script will be written by Alena Smith, best known as the creator of Apple TV+’s Dickinson. A director has not yet been announced.

Released in 1961 and adapted from Truman Capote’s novella, Breakfast at Tiffany’s follows New York socialite Holly Golightly as she forms a bond with a struggling writer who moves into her apartment building. While the film became a defining cultural touchstone, its creation was anything but smooth. Capote famously wanted Marilyn Monroe to play Holly Golightly and felt betrayed by Paramount’s decision to cast Hepburn instead. The production also reportedly included on-set mishaps, including a near-electrocution during the filming of the now-iconic opening scene outside Tiffany & Co. on Fifth Avenue.

The making-of film will feature characters based on Capote, legendary costume designer Edith Head, and director Blake Edwards, though casting for those roles has yet to be revealed.

Between the behind-the-scenes Hollywood drama, the cultural weight of Breakfast at Tiffany’s, and the fashion legacy tied to Hepburn’s portrayal of Holly Golightly, the film is shaping up to be a must-watch for classic cinema fans and pop culture obsessives alike.

And, if nothing else, we can all agree on one thing: the fashion is going to be impeccable.
