Carradine was best known for his role as Lewis Skolnick in the Revenge of the Nerds film franchise, as well as for playing Sam McGuire, Hilary Duff’s on-screen father, in the Disney Channel series and film Lizzie McGuire. His work spanned decades, earning him a place in both cult-classic comedy and a generation’s favorite coming-of-age show.
In a statement shared with Deadline, the Carradine family paid tribute to the late actor, describing him as “a beacon of light” to those who knew him. They also spoke openly about his long battle with bipolar disorder and expressed hope that his story would help encourage conversations around mental health and reduce stigma. Robert Carradine was the older brother of actor Keith Carradine and the father of actress Ever Carradine (The Handmaid’s Tale). Keith Carradine also shared words honoring his brother, remembering him as profoundly gifted, deeply funny, and endlessly accepting of others.
