John Tucker Must Die Sequel Shelved, Arielle Kebbel Confirms

By Alexus Mosley

Bad news for fans hoping to see John Tucker back on the big screen.

Nearly two years after John Tucker Must Die stars Jesse Metcalfe, Sophia Bush, and Arielle Kebbel confirmed a sequel was in the works, Kebbel has shared a disappointing update: the project is currently shelved.

Speaking on the Feb. 19 episode of Kaitlyn Bristowe’s Off the Vine podcast, Kebbel explained that she helped sell the sequel to a studio and that the original cast had been on board. A script was completed just before the writers’ strike halted momentum in 2023. “Post–writers’ strike, we were supposed to move forward into casting, and their slate totally changed,” Kebbel said. “That happens in the film business. It got shelved, which is not a permanent thing, but it is not currently active.”

Despite the pause, Kebbel remains optimistic that the sequel could eventually move forward. “The moment will come,” she said. “But it’s on pause for now.”

The sequel was previously teased in March 2024, with the cast hinting that John Tucker might get a redemption arc. Metcalfe even joked at a fan panel that he’s still ready to bring back John’s most iconic feature (his abs, dad bod, and all).

For now, it looks like John Tucker’s comeback is on ice.
