Nearly 10 Years Later, Kim Kardashian Gets Symbolic Damages Over Paris Robbery

Nearly a decade after the robbery that left her bound, gagged, and fearing for her life, Kim Kardashian has received a symbolic civil award tied to the 2016 Paris heist.
Kardashian was awarded about $1.15 million in damages at her request, according to the Associated Press. Her longtime friend Simone Harouche, who was staying one floor below her during the robbery, received the same amount.
The symbolic award comes after more than $6 million worth of jewelry was stolen from Kardashian’s Paris hotel room in October 2016.
In a joint statement, Kardashian and Harouche said the ruling was not about money.
“Today’s decision is not about the compensation, but about accountability and recognition,” they said, adding that the experience remained deeply traumatic.
Kardashian previously testified about the robbery during a criminal trial that resulted in the conviction of eight people connected to the crime.
She recalled initially believing the men who entered her hotel room were police officers before realizing they were after her jewelry, including a $4 million engagement ring from Kanye West.
As the robbers bound and gagged her, Kardashian said she became convinced she was going to die.
She later testified that she prayed for her family while the robbery unfolded.
Harouche, who was downstairs at the time, also described hearing Kardashian pleading for her life before locking herself in a bathroom and calling the family’s security team for help.
The court also awarded compensation to others affected by the robbery, including the hotel where the incident took place and a receptionist who was working that night.
For Kardashian, though, the €1 award appears to represent something much bigger than money.
After years of legal proceedings, public testimony and continued discussion of the trauma surrounding the robbery, the ruling offers formal recognition of what she experienced and a chance to close one of the darkest chapters of her public life.
