Former President Barack Obama, former First Lady Michelle Obama, and their family gathered in Chicago to celebrate the opening of the Obama Presidential Center, a landmark institution dedicated to leadership, civic engagement, and community impact.

The opening ceremony brought together an extraordinary mix of political leaders, artists, and cultural figures. Among the attendees were former Presidents Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and Joe Biden, along with former Vice President Kamala Harris, former German Chancellor Angela Merkel, former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Oprah Winfrey, Tom Hanks, Steven Spielberg, and Dwyane Wade.

The celebration also featured performances from Stevie Wonder, Jennifer Hudson, John Legend, Common, The Roots, Bruce Springsteen, Bono and The Edge of U2, Christina Aguilera, Eddie Vedder, Marc Anthony, and Tems, among others.  Throughout the ceremony, Barack and Michelle Obama reflected on the values that shaped their lives and careers, emphasizing citizenship, community engagement, and the responsibility each generation has to strengthen democracy.

Located on Chicago’s South Side, the Obama Presidential Center was designed to go beyond the traditional presidential library model. The campus includes a museum chronicling the story of Barack and Michelle Obama, a branch of the Chicago Public Library, gathering spaces, educational programming, performance venues, and community-focused initiatives designed to inspire future leaders.

More than a museum, the Obama Presidential Center represents a vision for preserving history while encouraging visitors to engage with the ongoing work of democracy, service, and civic participation
