Jessica Simpson is ready to let cameras back into her life.

The pop star and fashion mogul has confirmed that a documentary chronicling her life and career is headed to Netflix in 2027, marking her return to reality-based storytelling more than two decades after Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica became one of the defining reality shows of the early 2000s.

“It’s time to open a new chapter,” Simpson wrote on Instagram Aug. 23, sharing a photo of herself alongside a camera crew and tagging Netflix.

The still-untitled documentary, directed by Joe Pearlman, will explore Simpson’s career, cultural influence and years away from the spotlight before her recent return to music.

And there’s certainly plenty to revisit.

Simpson emerged as one of the biggest pop personalities of the Y2K era, eventually selling more than 20 million records worldwide. Her fame reached another level in 2003 with Newlyweds, the MTV reality series that followed her marriage to Nick Lachey and helped turn Simpson into a pop culture phenomenon.

She later built an empire outside of music with The Jessica Simpson Collection and revisited the more complicated chapters of her public and private life in her bestselling 2020 memoir, Open Book.

More recently, Simpson has been finding her way back to music. After a 15-year break from releasing original material, she returned in 2025 with her Nashville Canyon EPs and began performing again.

The comeback followed a period of personal change for Simpson, who has spoken about rediscovering herself while spending time in Nashville.

“My whole music career, I had a job: to be a pop star,” she said during a December 2025 performance in Connecticut, reflecting on the pressures she experienced earlier in her career.

Now, at 46, Simpson appears ready to tell that story from her own perspective.

Netflix has yet to announce an official premiere date beyond 2027, but considering Simpson gave us pop hits, chicken-or-fish discourse, one of the most memorable reality shows of the 2000s and a billion-dollar fashion empire, there’s no shortage of material.

And frankly, we’re seated.
