As If! Alicia Silverstone Is Officially Returning for a ‘Clueless’ Sequel Series

Ugh, as if! Cher Horowitz is officially making her long-awaited return.
After years of rumors and a brief detour at Peacock, Paramount+ has officially ordered a six-episode sequel series to Clueless, with Alicia Silverstone reprising her iconic role as everyone’s favorite Beverly Hills fashionista.
The series will pick up in the present day, following Cher as a successful businesswoman and mother whose greatest challenge isn’t high school popularity, but raising a teenage daughter. According to the official logline, Cher has “figured out a lot,” but parenting a teenager leaves her feeling clueless all over again. The project was originally in development at Peacock before being shelved earlier this year. Now, the beloved franchise is returning to its original studio home, Paramount, with production expected to begin in Los Angeles in 2027.
Behind the scenes, the series boasts an impressive creative team. Gossip Girl creators Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage are writing and executive producing alongside Jordan Weiss. Original Clueless writer and director Amy Heckerling also returns as an executive producer, along with Silverstone and producer Robert Lawrence.
Originally released in 1995, Clueless quickly became one of the defining teen comedies of the decade. Loosely inspired by Jane Austen’s Emma, the film transformed Cher Horowitz into a pop culture icon thanks to her unforgettable style, razor-sharp one-liners, and optimistic outlook. More than three decades later, the film remains a fashion favorite and was recently added to the National Film Registry by the Library of Congress.
Now, a new generation is about to meet Cher Horowitz, while longtime fans finally get to see what happened after “totally buggin’” entered the cultural lexicon.
