Lionel Richie Hospitalized in ICU After St. Louis Concert

Lionel Richie is taking some time to recover after another health scare on tour.
The 77-year-old music legend checked himself into a St. Louis hospital following his Aug. 29 performance at The Muny, where he was later admitted to the intensive care unit for testing, according to TMZ. Sources told the outlet that doctors were looking into possible slight dehydration and described the hospitalization as precautionary.
During the final portion of Saturday night’s concert, fans noticed Richie leaning on his piano for support. He later asked his team to bring him a chair before finishing the night with his 1983 hit “All Night Long” while seated.
The hospitalization comes just over two months after Richie experienced another health scare while performing in St. Paul, Minnesota.
In June, the Grammy winner became dizzy during a concert and ultimately ended the show early. The incident resulted in two subsequent performances being postponed. Richie later told fans that doctors had determined he was suffering from dehydration.
He even addressed the previous scare during Saturday’s St. Louis concert, explaining to the audience that the experience had shaken him because he initially didn’t understand what was happening. According to local reporting, Richie drank electrolytes onstage throughout the evening.
Following his June health scare, Richie reassured fans that he was doing well and expressed his gratitude for the messages and support he’d received.
Richie has been touring alongside Earth, Wind & Fire as part of their Sing a Song All Night Long Tour. His next scheduled performance is currently set for Sept. 26 in San Francisco, though there has not yet been an official announcement regarding whether his hospitalization will affect upcoming dates.
