In July 1996, Demi Moore walked onto the set of The Late Show with David Letterman to promote her upcoming film Striptease. And what was meant to be a standard late-night promotional stop quickly became one of the most talked-about and sexy, if we say so ourselves, Pop Culture moments of the decade.

Moore appeared onstage wearing a light blue bikini inspired by her role in Striptease, and instantly commanded the room and the conversation. The audience gasped, Letterman reacted with his trademark mix of surprise and humor, and for a moment the world froze. Striptease was already controversial, so Moore’s (becoming one of the highest-paid actresses in Hollywood) spicy stunt made for much debate.
