Kai Trump is making one thing clear: she doesn’t want to be known for politics.

The 18-year-old granddaughter of President Donald Trump attended the 2026 ESPY Awards on Wednesday, where she spoke with reporters about everything from sports to social media, but repeatedly emphasized that politics isn’t part of her personal brand. “Honestly, I kind of stay out of politics completely. It’s just not my thing,” Kai told Sportico on the red carpet.

The incoming University of Miami golfer said her focus is on sharing her life as a student-athlete and content creator. “I just like showing my life and showing how you can still be an athlete, and you can still do a ton of other things and enjoy a ton of other things,” she explained, adding that she hopes to inspire others by showing them “that everything’s possible.”

When asked about the relationship between sports and politics, Kai doubled down on her stance, once again saying, “Honestly, I kind of stay out of politics completely. It’s just not my thing.”

It’s a message she’s shared before. Earlier this year, Kai made a similar comment during an appearance on Logan Paul’s podcast, where she also said she prefers to avoid political discussions. While she avoids political commentary, Kai briefly mentioned attending the UFC event at the White House last month, calling it “great” and saying she appreciated seeing veterans recognized as part of the America 250 celebration.

This Fall, Kai will begin the next chapter of her athletic career as a member of the University of Miami women’s golf team, where she’ll compete at the collegiate level while continuing to grow her online presence.

Although she’s one of the most recognizable members of the Trump family, Kai appears determined to carve out an identity centered on sports, lifestyle content, and life as a college athlete, rather than politics.
