SZA is opening up about her health in a deeply personal way.

Over the weekend, the Grammy-winning singer shared on her private Instagram account that she has been formally diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder, posting a screenshot of her evaluation with fans.

The evaluation describes behaviors and traits that were found to be consistent with autism spectrum disorder, noting that she experiences sensory sensitivities and anxiety while also highlighting her creativity and strong cognitive and linguistic abilities.

SZA also reflected on how the diagnosis may help explain some of her online behavior and passionate stance against artificial intelligence in music. “Pretty sure this is why I’m taking AI so personally btw lol,” she wrote. “And also why I’m in every comment section.”

The singer has been one of the music industry’s most outspoken critics of AI-generated music. In recent months, she has repeatedly warned about its impact on artists and creative ownership, previously telling i-D magazine that she feels “at war” with artificial intelligence.

SZA’s revelation has sparked conversations among fans about neurodiversity, representation, and the different ways autism can present in adults.
